Sporting director making Juventus charge for Chelsea man; three more clubs in pursuit

Juventus chief Federico Cherubini is reportedly leading the way when it comes to signing Jorginho from Chelsea, although interest also stems from three more European giants.

Jorginho’s record for the campaign stands at nine goals and four assists in 39 appearances, with most of his strikes coming from the penalty spot. The central midfielder is helping Chelsea to finish in the top four and defend their Champions League crown. They are also in the semi-final of the FA Cup and will play Crystal Palace at Wembley.

However, the Blues will have their work cut out if they want to remain European champions. They lost 3-1 to Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their quarter-final.

Jorginho, along with his team-mates, will need to put in an incredible performance if the Blues are to reach the last four.

The 30-year-old remains an integral part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans. However, he could end up leaving Chelsea due to several reasons.

First of all, his agent seems intent on organising a transfer. He has repeatedly spoken about a return to Italy, as that is where Jorginho’s heart ‘belongs’.

Jorginho contract running down at Chelsea

An exit could occur next summer, as that’s when Jorginho’s Chelsea contract expires. And the club isn’t exactly in the best place to sort out an extension, given the current sanctions imposed on their owner.

Sempre Milan provide an update on Jorginho’s future, while citing Italian outlet La Repubblica. And it is worrying reading for Chelsea fans.

They claim Juve sporting director Cherubini is heading negotiations for the Turin outfit to land Jorginho. He reckons a deal is there to be struck this summer, should the necessary sanctions on Chelsea end.

In addition, Juve boss Max Allegri is keen to bring the Italy international into his midfield. Jorginho could be a quick improvement, given his previous Serie A experience with Hellas Verona and then Napoli.

But the Old Lady are not alone in the hunt. According to Sempre Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan also have hopes of capturing Jorginho.

This shows just how much of a respected figure he is around Europe. After all, Jorginho did place third in the most recent Ballon d’Or rankings.

Such a talent will come at a price. The Brazilian-born star is demanding a salary worth £5.8million per season, and that is out of reach for Milan.

Juve, Barca and PSG have funds available to meet that sum, though, meaning Chelsea will likely receive bids for Jorginho at some point in the near future.
