Super agent ignites talks for star to sign with Liverpool before season starts

Fabinho is in talks with Liverpool over a new contract that could be signed off before the start of the season, according to a report.

Liverpool recently tied Trent Alexander-Arnold down to a longer-term contract and have several similar deals to address this summer. Many of their players have two years left on their contracts, meaning they need to start thinking about getting them to renew.

Among those with a deal expiring in 2023 is Fabinho, who has become one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted men since joining from Monaco in 2018.

Last season, the Brazilian proved his importance by covering at centre-back, before returning to his usual defensive midfield role. He finished the campaign with 42 appearances in all competitions, 38 of which were starts.

In the prime of his career at 27 years old, Liverpool want to ensure they continue to enjoy Fabinho’s services. Therefore, according to Football Insider, they have opened talks over his new contract.

Fabinho is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who wants to negotiate the new deal before the start of the season. It would be beneficial for all parties to avoid any distractions once the campaign gets underway.

The feeling is mutual between player and club; both want to continue together. Hence, they will hope to make the deal official as soon as possible.

The Brazil international is thus due for an imminent pay rise. He currently earns around £100,000 per week, but his new contract will see that sum increase.

Fabinho has been on an extended break following his involvement with Brazil at this summer’s Copa America, as have teammates Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino. They will all team up with the squad for the next phase of their pre-season training camp in Evian.

Like his compatriot, Alisson is also in talks over an extension to his current deal, which runs until 2024.

Fabinho to become teammates with Saul?

Once Fabinho’s future is secure, Liverpool will consider whether they need to replace Georginio Wijnaldum.

If so, one of their main targets is Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid, who is also wanted by Manchester United.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Atletico have given the green light for his entourage to negotiate with other clubs. His representatives will travel to the UK on Monday to discuss a possible transfer to either Liverpool or United.

Man Utd are said to be the favourites at present, which would seem to corroborate recent reports that he was just out of reach for Liverpool due to his asking price of up to £40m.

But his entourage are listening to proposals from both clubs, who each still have a decent chance of signing him.

The 26-year-old’s future should become clearer soon. Like Fabinho, he wants to sort it before the season kicks off in mid-August.
