Teenager names reason why it had to be Leeds after penning lengthy deal

Amari Miller admits he did not have to think twice when given the opportunity to join Leeds and feels the club’s style of play suits his game down to the ground.

The 18-year-old signed for the Whites on Monday, penning a four-yead deal at Elland Road. The fee Leeds paid Birmingham City was undisclosed but thought to be in the region of £1.5m. Miller is certainly one for the future, with just two starts among five Championship appearances in his fledgling career to date.

But he clearly caught the eye as Everton, Tottenham and Southampton were also mentioned in connection with the youngster. The Birmingham-born starlet’s preferred position is on the right of midfield.

But he will offer Marcelo Bielsa options, with an ability to play in the middle or wide on the left. The talented schemer paid tribute to his former club but confessed it was a no-brainer to join Leeds.

“The minute I heard Leeds United were interested, I knew what a massive club it was and it was too big to turn down,” he told LUTV. “My family, friends and everyone who knew about it have just been brilliant.

“I feel like I must thank Birmingham City so much, because I have been there since the age of 10. It has been the place where I have learnt the most, I couldn’t have asked them for any more, they gave me everything I needed to get to this stage and help me progress.”

Miller relishing Leeds chance

Leeds enjoyed a superb return to the Premier League after 16 years out of the limelight. Bielsa guided them to a ninth-placed finish when many tipped them for relegation.

The West Yorkshire outfit were roundly praised for their style of football and bagged 62 top-flight goals. The Argentine tactician was never going to rest on his laurels and Miller’s signing could be the first of many.

And the West Midlander feels the way the South American sets up his side is tailor-made for his skills.

“As a winger, I can see Leeds get a lot of one v one chances which is something I really back myself in,” he added. “They play quickly and at a high tempo, they press high up the pitch and train with such a high intensity which is unbelievable.

“I would say I am skilful, good at finishing and composed. Even coming from outside of Leeds, it’s amazing to see yourself at such a club like this.”
