Tottenham announce transfer of Pierluigi Gollini with interesting option
Tottenham have signed Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan, with the option to make it a permanent deal.
The 26-year-old becomes Spurs’ first signing of the summer and will challenge Hugo Lloris for the number one spot at the north London club.
Gollini was part of the youth system at Manchester United and also played 20 times for Aston Villa in 2016/17.
The deal is subject to international clearance.
Gollini told Sky in Italy on Friday: “I am very happy. It is very difficult to leave my second home. I thank Bergamo [where Atalanta play] and the fans. I felt very loved and what we did will remain in history.
“I am grateful to Tottenham for this opportunity, I can’t wait to start. The possibility of staying in Italy was there but Tottenham was the best opportunity.”
“I could’ve still played in Italy but Tottenham is the best option for me. It’s difficult for me to play for another team in Italy after Atalanta.”
Spurs will take Gollini on a loan with an option to buy the Italy international for £13m which will become an obligation if he plays a certain number of games, according to Sky in Italy.
They will also have the option to extend the loan by a further 12 months.
Gollini moved to Atalanta from Aston Villa in 2018 and has played his part in the club’s recent success.
They have finished third in Serie A in each of the past three seasons, consequently becoming a Champions League regular.
However, they have not just made up the numbers. They reached the quarter-finals in 2019/20 before losing in the last 16 to Real Madrid last term.
Gollini has kept 38 clean sheets in 112 matches.
Corona interest
The forward ranks at Spurs are also set to see change with Sevilla’s Bryan Gil swapping places with Erik Lamela. €25m+add ons will also be included to facilitate the arrival of the exciting Spanish winger.
Now, Sport Witness reveal Gil may not be the only new face on the flanks.
Citing multiple Portuguese newspapers, they reveal Tottenham have ‘joined the race’ for FC Porto’s Jesus Corona.
The Mexican flyer, 28, holds a release clause believed to be between €30m-€40m in his contract. However, an offer in the region of €20m is predicted to twist Porto’s arm.
That stems from their reluctance to lose Corona for free next summer with just one year left on his deal
Corona is said to be of the impression it is the ‘right time to leave’ the club. The 53-times capped Mexico international operates primarily on the right side and was previously linked with Arsenal.
