Tottenham are apparently still dreaming about signing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina this summer, but it appears that dream might not come true.

Vlahovic is one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. The 21-year-old netted 21 goals from 37 games in Serie A last season, despite his club struggling. It seems he is destined for a future at a higher level. As such, a move to a bigger Premier League club has been touted.

Practically every member of the so-called big six have been linked with Vlahovic. However, the main contenders to take him to England seem to be Tottenham. Their managing director Fabio Paratici has seen what the striker can do close up in Serie A and could try to lure him to London.

Whether they view Vlahovic as a replacement for Harry Kane or just competition with an eye for the future remains to be seen. Either way, he would be a good reinforcement as the club look to build for the future.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Tottenham are one of many clubs across Europe who are dreaming about signing the Serbian.

However, they may have to be patient, as Vlahovic’s current priority is to sign a new deal with Fiorentina.

His current contract only has two years left on it, so time is running out for Fiorentina to secure his future. They are desperate to keep hold of their top talent as they aim to show more ambition.

Hence, talks will commence over a new contract – and it seems that is what Vlahovic wants at this stage too.

At the age of 21, he perhaps still needs another season or two to build up his confidence before earning a move. He only hit double figures for the first time last season, and while he did so emphatically, continuing to develop at Fiorentina may be the safest option at present.

Vlahovic tipped for Tottenham

Despite that approach, the man who signed him for Fiorentina recently claimed he was good enough to play for someone like Tottenham now.

“Quality has no age. Now, (Vlahovic) could play as a centre-forward for Juventus, Liverpool or Tottenham,” former Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino said.

“I scared (Fiorentina) when, in 2017, I paid €1.5 million to Partizan (Belgrade).

“I admit, after signing him, I was scared. I’m convinced Vlahovic’s father also noticed that and told me: ‘Director, I’m sure you are bringing the new (Gabriel) Batistuta to Florence.’

“I replied: ‘Well, I was convinced, instead, that I had brought a new Luca Toni!’”

Vlahovic still has plenty of years ahead of him before he can match figures such as those. It seems he will be spending the next one or two right where he is. But he will no doubt remain on the radar of clubs like Spurs in that time.
