Transfer insider shocked Rangers star did not end up in Premier League

Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed his surprise that Rangers were able to keep Premier League midfield target Glen Kamara this summer.

The Finland international was a player in demand during the offseason. He openly admitted himself that feelers were put out by clubs from different countries. Indeed clubs from England and across Europe were all looking to negotiate a switch.

West Ham are said to have lodged an enquiry for the 25-year-old’s services back in July. Newly-promoted Watford were also keen, along with Arsenal – after the Gunners gave up in their chase for Ruben Neves.

Kamara, who actually came up through Arsenal’s academy, was reportedly offered a five-year contract by the north London side.

Despite continued talk of a move away, Kamara insists he is still fully committed to Rangers. Indeed, the club have even opened talks to extends his contract beyond 2023.

Kamara was not the only Ibrox star to be linked with an exit this summer. Leeds continued their long-standing chase for Ryan Kent, while Porto and Cagliari both bid for striker Alfredo Morelos.

Kamara wanted all over Europe

However, all three remained in Glasgow – although Jones admits he was shocked at Kamara’s stay.

He told Give Me Sport: “There was interest in the three of them but I am probably most surprised that Kamara didn’t go.

“There was such interest in him from across Europe and a few clubs in the Premier League that I thought he would go and it just didn’t materialise.”

Rangers and Kamara are next in action when they head to St Johnstone Saturday lunchtime.
