Two centre-backs gets maiden call-ups as Southgate names provisional England squad
Ben White and Ben Godfrey have both been called up to England’s 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2020, with Eric Dier missing out.
Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has joined Brighton’s White and Everton’s Godfrey with his first call up.
Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been included after missing out on the last squad for the World Cup qualifiers, among four right-backs in the squad.
Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker are the other right-backs. Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins and 17-year-old Jude Bellingham are among the others to get the nod.
Spurs’ Dier misses out, while Southampton striker Danny Ings and Leeds’ Patrick Bamford have not made the cut.
With the Three Lions dealing with issues such as injuries and European final absentees, the Football Association confirmed a larger provisional squad would be announced on Tuesday rather than the definitive squad.
Ahead of naming his final #EURO2020 squad next week, Gareth Southgate has selected 33 players to join up with the #ThreeLions from this weekend as our preparations for this summer’s tournament get under way.

Southgate has named a 33-man group that will be trimmed down to 26 players on June 1, allowing him to include injury doubts such as Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips.
There is a first senior call-up for Brighton centre-back White and Everton defender Godfrey, while Ramsdale joins uncapped Sam Johnstone in the squad as Nick Pope misses out through injury.
Manchester United teenager Mason Greenwood has been recalled for the first time since being sent home after his debut in Iceland.
