Villa cling on to Grealish hope as Man City decision ‘expected in days’

Manchester City are now in ‘direct contact’ with Aston Villa over the transfer of Jack Grealish and a decision is imminent, according to a trusted source.

City have been linked with the England midfielder for some time after his stellar displays for the West Midlanders. The 25-year-old has become the club’s talisman and a player who gets fans out of their seats when he has the ball. The Birmingham-born ace is a driving force in midfield and it has brought him 32 goals from 213 Villa appearances.

But he is as much a provider as a goal threat. An ability to beat opponents and create chances has seen Pep Guardiola take note and a summer move may be on.

It seemed as though the Villans were not prepared to let the superstar leave. Manager Dean Smith has made his feelings clear but, as ever in football, money talks.

Sums in the region of £75m have been mooted for the former Notts County loan man. And it is thought a huge offer could do the trick in weakening the Midlanders’ resolve

Leading football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now had his say on the matter. He took to social media on Thursday to confirm City are now in ‘direct contact’ with the Villa Park outfit.

He added that club officials have responded by offering the schemer a new deal to try and keep him on board. And the Italian journalist is adamant that negotiations will not take too long.

A decision on whether Grealish will wear light blue next term is ‘expected in the coming days’.

Grealish the player of the moment

There is no question that Grealish was the player England fans wanted to see at Euro 2020. Although he did not see too much game time, there was a buzz every time he rose from the bench.

And Guardiola will feel he could be a world-class addition to an already talented midfield. Last weekend it was reported that Chelsea had entered the picture.

TMZ (via Caughtoffside) suggested that the Blues were about to launch an assault on the player. Thomas Tuchel is looking for quality recruits after guiding his side to Champions League glory.

Grealish certainty falls into that category but there has been no follow-up to that particular report. A move to the Etihad Stadium seems a more likely outcome.

But whether or not the saga is over in days is another matter.
