‘We have to be angry’ – Klopp stokes the Liverpool fire to avoid ‘massive Man Utd problems’

Jurgen Klopp has urged his Liverpool players to face Manchester United with the attitude that it is ‘the most important three points in your life’.

The Reds host Ralf Rangnick’s side on Tuesday evening as their ongoing battle with Manchester City for the Premier League title continues. A draw would see the Anfield giants move to the top of the table on goal difference but it is three points they crave. City are a solitary point ahead at present and the Merseysiders cannot afford to drop points at this stage of the campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s charges face Brighton on Wednesday as they respond to Liverpool’s opening salvo of the week. A Liverpool – United clash is always a big encounter.

This one takes place with the Old Trafford outfit trailing their rivals by 19 points. They were hammered 5-0  on their own patch by Klopp’s men earlier in 2021-2022.

United defender Harry Maguire told Sky Sports that revenge is very much on his mind for this week’s clash. And, with that in mind, Klopp wants his players to play the match as though their lives depended on it.

“We have to be angry in a good way, greedy all these kind of things,” he told reporters. “Like you are if you have won nothing and would be with nil points and it’s the most important three points in your life.

“That’s the attitude we need for this game. If we let United do (what they want) they will cause us massive problems.

“We have to be in the right mood, the people have to be in the right mood to really be ready to fight for the three points and not want to show we are in a better moment than United. Who is interested about that?”

Attitude key for Klopp

United are embroiled in their own battle with Tottenham and Arsenal for fourth spot in the standings. It has given them extra incentive to avenge their Old Trafford mauling.

And Klopp knows that only the right mindset will allow his side to get the better of their opponents.

“There are times when you have better moments than other teams then you get a knock and that’s it with the better moment,” he added. “Who cares?

“They want the three points we need. That’s that attitude we have to show.”
