West Brom boss Ismael tipped for reunion with striker ‘who can hit ground running’

Championship promotion-hopefuls West Brom are said to be, once again, interested in signing young American striker Daryl Dike.

Dike, 21, was reportedly a target for West Brom in the summer, however the move failed to materialise. Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Barnsley, Dike is now back in MLS for Orlando City SC.

However, journalist Steve Madeley has suggested manager Valerien Ismael is interested in bringing the youngster back to England.

He wrote in The Athletic: “Resurrecting their interest in Dike in the winter window would be a positive move for Albion. He already knows the Championship, has succeeded in it and could potentially hit the ground running.”

Ismael took charge of Dike during his spell at Barnsley, where he scored nine times in 19 appearances.

The gaffer also made his admiration for the striker evident, describing Dike as ‘unbelievable’ at times last season.

Reuniting with the American could be a possibility, however the move would require the Baggies to splash the cash.

Dike has six goals from 14 games in MLS this season, and has also already made five appearances for his national side.

West Brom could also face stiff competition for the hot prospect’s signature, as Crystal Palace were heavily linked in the summer. Everton were also understood to be interested in a deal for the former college star.

Ismael has clear idea ahead of transfer window

Ismael has already set out his plans for the January transfer window, per the report.

Madeley has said the manager already knows exactly what positions he hopes to improve as his side look to make a return to the top flight.

He wrote: “Ismael already has a clear idea of what he wants to do in the January transfer window. And it is difficult to think filling that vacancy up front is not at the top of his list.

“Followed closely by additional cover in the centre of midfield.”

The Baggies were already prolific during the summer window, bringing in eight new players including Jordan Hugill and Alex Mowatt.
