West Ham go big with last-ditch attempt for long-term striker target

West Ham are reported to have made another bid to try and secure long-term striker target Youssef En-Nesyri from Sevilla.

The Hammers tried and failed to sign the striker twice in January. Their proposed transfer fee did not meet the Spanish side’s ‘sporting satisfaction’, as per their sporting director Monchi. As a result, David Moyes opted to conclude the 2020/21 season without a replacement for Sebastien Haller.

The Scot is now seeking a new forward in the summer window to fill the void left by their record signing, who departed for Ajax.

En-Nesyri remained one of their top targets following the rejection earlier in the year. Reports in April indicated they were favourites to sign him ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool.

However, their hopes seemed to be all but ended when the player revealed in an interview that he was not cut-out for playing in England.

He told ABC Sevilla:“I went to Chelsea and stayed there for three weeks. It was very cold, and I went back to Morocco; I couldn’t take it anymore.”

What’s more, his agent recently revealed that he is happy in Seville and has absolutely no interest in leaving this summer.

Despite this, Marca have reported that West Ham have ‘come charging this with an offer that far exceeds their emoluments in Seville’.

Their possible motivation is that Sevilla need to make a big sale this summer in order to be able to strengthen their side.

Only two of Julen Lopetegui’s side would command such a fee. One is En-Nesyri, whilst the other is centre-back Jules Kounde.

Kounde is keen to move on, but En-Nesyri feels completely the opposite. The report states he would only move to a top club, albeit reluctantly, and ‘second row club’ West Ham do not fit into this category.

Therefore, it looks unlikely the Hammers can do anything to make En-Nesyri theirs in the coming weeks.

Hammers also targeting ex-Fulham man

Meanwhile, the east London outfit are keen to give Alphonse Areola the chance to stay in the Premier League following his loan spell with Fulham, according to reports.

Areola spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Craven Cottage, making 37 appearances in all competitions.

Despite Fulham’s relegation, he was one of their better performers. However, he has been unable to earn another chance at parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

Therefore, the 28-year-old may have to leave them again. In doing so, he could end up back in the Premier League – and in the same city where he was last season.
