West Ham ‘in talks’ for African behemoth with ridiculous goal record

West Ham could be set to swoop for giant Genk striker Paul Onuachu with reports that his agent is in London for talks over a possible move.

The 27-year-old has been with Genk for two season and enjoyed a modest return during 2019-2020. He bagged nine goals from 22 Belgian Pro League outings but took his game to another level last term. The Nigeria international notched 33 times from 38 outings to help the Blauw-Wit finish second in the table.

Unsurprisingly his prowess in front of goal has alerted some top teams. And back in May it was reported that the African had his sights set on a move to Arsenal.

It is not known if the Gunners feel the same way but the Hammers are said to be interested. Own Goal Nigeria are reporting that both the East End outfit and Brighton are in with a shout of landing the forward.

And the website goes on to say that his representative will talk to both clubs over personal terms. It will be up to the clubs to negotiate a transfer fee for a player valued at around £22m.

It is unlikely that the clubs involved will go that high but negotiations have only just begun.

West Ham target proven goalscorer

Onuachu has scored goals wherever he has played, albeit at a level below the Premier League. He hit 23 in 2016-17 and 22 in 2018-19 for Danish outfit Midtjylland.

And he took that form to Belgium to earn a possible crack at the English top flight. It is no secret that David Moyes is in the market for a new striker.

Many players have been linked but he has, to date, kept his power dry. The future of Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard is still up in the air.

Although not an out-an-out striker, he proved just how good he is during a loan spell last season. Moyes would love to have him on board but the ball is very much in United’s court.

Even if he did return next season, the Scot will still be targeting a striker and Onuachu would certainly excite the fans. At 6ft 7in, he would be a perfect target man and give the side many attacking options.

But he clearly also has an eye for goal and is not someone just to pump the ball up to and hope.

He is said to be dreaming of a move to England. And it may be that he has a straight decision to make between London and the south coast.
