West Ham transfer expected as club president provides honest admission
West Ham forward Andriy Yarmolenko could return to a former club following an honest admission from their president.
The Ukraine international joined West Ham back in July 2018 for around £17.5million. He arrived with plenty of promise after bagging goals for Dynamo Kiev in his home country and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Yarmolenko has shown glimpses of his talent but has never performed regularly for West Ham. His best campaign was in 2019-20, when he managed five goals in 23 Premier League appearances.
David Moyes mainly used the 31-year-old as an impact substitute last season. He couldn’t get ahead of Jarrod Bowen or Said Benrahma in the pecking order.
Yarmolenko’s situation is the same this campaign and he now looks set for a January transfer. A number of European clubs would gladly snap him up as his international record remains strong.
He has bagged an impressive 44 goals in 104 matches. Only AC Milan legend Andriy Shevchenko has managed more than him, although that record is in his sights.
Dynamo Kiev president Ihor Surkis has suggested that Yarmolenko could return to Ukraine. During a recent interview, relayed by Sport Witness, the chief said: “There is no such agreement, but it depends on both parties. If Andriy has a desire, I will gladly give him the opportunity to end his career at his home club.
“I have great respect for what he did for Dynamo, and I consider him a very decent man.”
Yarmolenko was snapped up by Dynamo in 2007 as a youngster. He emerged into the senior squad the following year and soon started to make his mark.
By the time of his Dortmund switch he had bagged 137 goals for the club in 340 appearances.
Yarmolenko captained Ukraine at this summer’s European Championship. He scored in group stage matches against the Netherlands and North Macedonia. They were then knocked out by England in the quarter-finals.

Moyes reacts to West Ham victory
Meanwhile, Moyes has named West Ham’s best player in their 1-0 win against Everton.
The Irons took home all three points thanks to Angelo Ogbonna’s second-half winner. He headed home a Jarrod Bowen corner from close range.
At the post-match press conference, Moyes said: “I want the team to challenge and try and get victories wherever we go. We have a good team and have been playing well.”
When asked about Declan Rice, he continued: “It would be very hard to say how good he was. He was excellent for me – he was head and shoulders over everyone on the pitch today. He tried to create opportunities and did the dirty bit as well when he had to.
“There has been big improvement in Declan so obviously that is good for us.”
Moyes also suggested that the club could sign a player similar to Kurt Zouma in the January transfer window.
