Wolves hit with major setback by player they are ‘very interested’ in

The latest reports indicate Wolves will not be able to sign Dani Ceballos this summer because the midfielder is not keen on a return to the Premier League.

Ceballos has returned to Real Madrid after two seasons on-loan with Arsenal. He was a relatively regular starter for the Gunners when fit and made 77 appearances in total. However, he failed to make much of an impression during his time in north London, especially on one Arsenal legend.

Now the 24-year-old finds himself at a crossroads in his career. His parent club are looking to find a new suitor for him for next season.

That’s according to ABC, who reported on Thursday that Real have put him up for sale with a price tag of €30m.

One of the teams that were claimed to be in the mix for Ceballos were Wolves. These reports were reinforced in today’s edition of Sport.

However, the Spanish newspaper have said that despite having the necessary funds to complete the signing, Wolves will not be where Ceballos ends up. That’s because the Spaniard is not favouring a return to the Premier League.

The report also states that further interested teams AC Milan and Real Betis are also not in a position to conclude a deal currently.

Milan are looking to take Ceballos on a zero cost loan deal. But neither Ceballos nor his club want to let him go on another temporary basis.

Los Blancos are said to be trying to raise funds to sign Kylian Mbappe. With that transfer no doubt requiring a bank-busting fee, Madrid are looking to cash in on all their expendable assets.

Therefore, a reunion with old club Betis looks most likely at this stage. Ceballos began his career with the Spanish club before moving to Real. And he expressed both his preference of LaLiga and his affection for Betis back in April.

If it is to be Betis though, they will need to make some outgoings to raise the funds for Ceballos. At this stage they cannot afford to get the deal done.

Ceballos the latest hit for Wolves

Meanwhile, Rui Patricio seems to be edging ever closer to the exit door at Wolves as prime suitors Roma prepare a new approach, according to reports.

Patricio has been a useful custodian for Wolves since joining them after their promotion to the Premier League in 2018.

One of the most high-profile Jorge Mendes clients to have joined the club in recent years, he has only missed two league games in the three years since his move.

But his time at Molineux may be coming to an end. Only one year remains on his contract and with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo having been replaced by Bruno Lage, it could be a summer of change for the Midlands club.
