Wolves look at Leicester man amid plan to sign two players for one position

Wolves are looking into a deal for Leicester back-up goalkeeper Danny Ward after realising they may need to change both their goalkeepers this summer, according to reports.

It could be a summer of change at Molineux. They have already replaced head coach Nuno Espirito Santo with Bruno Lage and several players could also leave. It has been claimed that high-profile names like Ruben Neves and Adama Traore could be up for sale.

But the change that looks most likely in their squad at present is in the goalkeeping department. Rui Patricio is understood to be close to joining Roma, although it is not yet a done deal.

In the event that Patricio leaves, Wolves will need to find a new number one. Jose Sa has been suggested as one option, for example.

But according to Football Insider, the Midlands outfit may sign not one, but two goalkeepers this summer. They are also bracing themselves for the departure of backup keeper John Ruddy.

Ruddy is out of contract at the end of the month and although they have offered him a new deal, he is yet to accept. Therefore, they will need to find a suitable replacement.

With that in mind, Football Insider claim Wolves have set their sights on Ward.

Since leaving Liverpool in 2018, Ward has served as the understudy to Kasper Schmeichel at Leicester. He has only managed to make 14 appearances for them – with none coming in the Premier League – but has impressively kept eight clean sheets.

He signed a new contract in April to commit his future to the club until 2025. However, Leicester’s resolve may now be tested.

Ward has been Wales’ first-choice goalkeeper so far at Euro 2020 and that may have given him a desire to play more regularly at club level. Whether Wolves would see him as a first-choice or backup remains to be seen and would depend on who else they sign.

Wolves launch forward bid

At the other end of the pitch, Wolves have been linked with a move for Santos starlet Kaio Jorge.

The 19-year-old has been turning heads with his displays for the Brazilian side. Despite his tender years, the Brazil Under-17 star has already racked up 76 appearances in all competitions for Alvinegro. Likened to compatriot Neymar, he has bagged 15 goals and been watched by many of Europe’s top clubs.

Chelsea and Arsenal were mentioned as possible suitors back in March, joining the likes of Ajax, Inter, Juventus and Lyon. But it may be that Wolves have stolen a march on them all with an early bid.

Wolves have reportedly offered €15m (£12.8m) for the man from Olinda, according to A Bola. But it would be a major surprise if theirs was the only bid that the South Americans receive for the youngster.
