Wolves looking to take gamble on inexperienced Brazilian, with Barcelona also in the running

Wolves and Barcelona are among the sides reportedly keen on Vasco De Gama youngster Andrey Santos, who has only played a handful of games.

Despite having only played four games in his career, Santos is clearly seen as a promising talent. At just 17 years of age, he is already being linked with some big names. Indeed, Barcelona are reported to be the frontrunners for Santos, per Globo Esporte.

That report also states that there is interest in the defensive midfielder from AC Milan, Monaco and Benfica. Indeed, there could be quite the battle for the inexperienced star.

The Wolves interest could well bear fruit, though. The West Midlanders are well versed in developing young talents into first-team players.

Fabio Silva, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Ki-Jana Hoever are all examples of inexperienced players that Wolves have developed recently. Silva, for example, had played just 21 games for Porto before securing a £36million move to Molineux in 2020.

To this point he has made 59 appearances for the senior side, and has contributed to 10 goals. Similarly, Ait-Nouri had played just 23 games before his move to Wolves, and has started 19 times this season alone.

As such, Santos may follow suit. Bruno Lage’s side are reported to have made contact with Vasco De Gama regarding the 17-year-old.

It is unclear how much any of the interested sides would have to part with to land the Brazilian.

He is under contract for another year, but the small sample size of appearances mean it is hard to gauge.

Santos to Wolves could play into Barcelona’s hands

Should Wolves land Santos, then that could signal an opportunity for Barcelona. La Blaugrana have been linked with a move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves in recent months.

Wolves targeting a defensive-midfielder could mean that they are planning for a future without Neves.

Interest in Neves has also been prevalent from Arsenal and Manchester United. What’s more, those sides may have the upper hand on Barcelona, as they would likely be willing to part with a larger sum of money.

Either way, this is not the first time that Wolves have been linked with a player in Neves’ position of late. As such, they may finally be preparing to see the Portuguese leave the club.
