Wolves quoted tempting fee for talented midfielder after mixed Arsenal spell

Wolves are one of the contenders to sign Dani Ceballos after his loan spell at Arsenal from Real Madrid came to an end, according to reports.

Ceballos spent the past two seasons on loan at Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with them last summer. Despite some signs of promise, he struggled to build up consistency. As such, he has returned to Real Madrid, leaving him with a fresh dilemma over his future.

With Zinedine Zidane having left as Madrid head coach, there may be a second chance for Ceballos at the Bernabeu. He is under contract for another two years, so still has time to prove himself, even if it is running out.

Alternatively, he may call time on his Madrid career immediately. If he is to leave, his preference seems to be a return to Real Betis.

But he will have other options on the table – including in the Premier League. According to El Confidencial, Wolves are interested in the 24-year-old.

Preparing for a summer of transition, Wolves are looking at potential replacements for some exit-linked stars. Following the change of coach from Nuno Espirito Santo to Bruno Lage, several key players could walk away.

Goalkeeper Rui Patricio seems the closest to an exit, but there have also been rumours that midfielder Ruben Neves is up for sale. Ironically, Arsenal have been mentioned as one of his main suitors.

In the event Neves leaves, Wolves could look to Ceballos to breathe new life into their midfield. His creative qualities could give them a different dimension.

What’s more, he certainly seems affordable. Madrid are reportedly willing to sell the Spaniard for just €16.5m.

Wolves should be able to sell Neves for more than that, meaning Ceballos could be a good option economically.

However, their chances of signing him are still unclear, with no sign of a formal offer yet.

Wolves want Chelsea midfielder

Meanwhile, another midfielder on Wolves’ radar is Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour.

Gilmour, 20, has found his first-team opportunities few and far between at Stamford Bridge over the last two seasons. Nevertheless, in the limited minutes he has received he has impressed.

Despite his youthfulness and inexperience, he has not looked out of his depth against the superstars of the Premier League. And he proved he can hang on the international stage too in his full debut for Scotland against England last week.

It is clear that Gilmour needs regular first-team action and the youngster recognises that he will not get this under Thomas Tuchel next season.

Both player and club are therefore said to be keen on sending him out on loan this summer. And Football Insider are reporting that Wolves are interested in offering him the chance to progress his development in 2021/22.

However, they could face competition from a number of keen suitors. It has been reported that five Premier League clubs are chasing the signing.

Top of this pile is Norwich. The Canaries may be better positioned to offer Gilmour regular football as they are already actively seeking a central midfielder after Oliver Skipp’s loan spell from Tottenham ended.
