Wolves willing to listen to offers but want £45m for Liverpool, Man Utd target

Wolves are reportedly willing to listen to offers for a Liverpool and Manchester United midfield target this summer, but will only sell if their asking price is met.

Star midfielder Ruben Neves is expected to move on this summer as part of the club’s restructuring following the exit of Nuno Espirito Santo. A cut-price exit of around £35m has been mooted, as Wolves look to raise funds for a summer rebuild at Molineux after a tough Premier League campaign that saw them finish 13th in the table.

However, the Express & Star states that Wolves will not have their hand forced over a sale. They claim that the club will listen to offers upwards of £45m. That is the same fee that Liverpool paid for winger Diogo Jota last summer.

Neves has been a key figure for Wolves since he arrived from Porto for £15million in 2017.

He played a major part in their Championship title success, as well as securing two top-seven Premier League finishes.

This campaign proved a tough one for Nuno’s men, however, with star striker Raul Jimenez suffering a serious head injury late last year.

The report adds that the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic also mean that Wolves will have to sell before they can buy.

Liverpool, Man Utd looking to strengthen

Neves is sure to be a player in demand, with Liverpool and United both wanting to bolster their engine rooms.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are preparing to say goodbye to long-serving midfielder Gini Wijnaldum when his contract runs out. Naby Keita could also be on his way after struggling to earn regular first-team football.

United, meanwhile, want more strength in depth, with Nemanja Matic tipped to leave and continued doubts over Paul Pogba’s future.

Much will also depend on who Wolves appoint as their next manager is succession to Nuno Espirito Santo.

Former Benfica boss Bruno Lage is said to have flown to England and held talks with Wolves. However, that deal is far from done, with the club making preliminary enquiries at this stage.

Wolves are also expected to interview other candidates before making their mind up over who takes over.
