High-profile departure at Manchester United halted by ‘all parties’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s surprise arrival at Manchester United will not force Edinson Cavani out of Old Trafford.

There were reports that the experienced could head to Barcelona on deadline day, but that has been dismissed.

Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that Cavani will not be leaving, at least not in this window.

He tweeted that he was staying put and that had been “confirmed by all parties involves”.

According to RAC1 reporter Gerard Romero Barca were in ‘very advanced negotiations’  with Cavani ahead of a late deal to sign him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, Barcelona are in the market for a new striker.

The paper claimed the 34-year-old had been “offered to Barca”. United were believed to be trying to lighten their wage bill after Ronaldo’s arrival.

The Portuguese superstar has arrived on a two-year deal, officially announced by United on Tuesday. It’s unclear just how much United have agreed to pat the 36-year-old.

The Daily Mirror claim he is on a staggering £385,000-per-week, while the Daily Mail suggest his salary is £485,000 a week.

Regardless he arrives as United’s highest paid player and will be given the role of centre forward.

That will leave Cavani’s chances of first-team action severely limited.

Cavani’s future was up in the air at the end of the season at Old Trafford. The veteran striker looked set to return to South America. United though United begged him to stay and eventually he agreed to extend his time in England.

Cavani signed a new one-year deal in May, but the surprise arrival of Ronaldo has clouded the waters at United.

Dan James move

The Uruguayan forward, who replaced Dan James against Wolves, will monitor his game time and could look to move in January.

James is understood to have passed his medical at Leeds and is set to complete a permanent £25m transfer.

Leeds tried to sign the 23-year-old Wales winger in the window prior to joining Man Utd. James came so close, in fact, that he was even pictured holding a Leeds Utd jersey.

Marcelo Bielsa has frequently been reported to have retained an affinity for James. His all-action style would appear to be a great fit for what the Argentine requires from his wide men.
