Rio Ferdinand reveals what fuming Cristiano Ronaldo told Man Utd teammates after Everton goal

The visible frustration of Cristiano Ronaldo at seeing Everton leave Old Trafford with a draw on Saturday has been explained in more detail by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.

The Red Devils took the lead at Old Trafford on Saturday through Anthony Martial’s first goal in eight months. However, the opener came after the visitors had grown into the contest.

In the second half, Andros Townsend made sure the Toffees got a deserved point, finishing off a quick break.

Still, Everton could have taken all three points had Yerry Mina not strayed offside before netting home late on. Here, we rated and slated the players on show at Old Trafford.

Speaking after the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that counter-attacking teams are causing his side problems.

United’s draw means they have now conceded at least one goal in each of their last nine league games at Old Trafford. Their only worse barren run of clean sheets at home – which stretched to 10 games – came in February 1971.

And it was all too much for a clearly-annoyed Ronaldo, who was quick to disappear down the tunnel once the final whistle blew.

And former Red Devil Ferdinand discussed Ronaldo’s frustration at full-time.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: “He stormed down the tunnel, disappointed about the result obviously we’ve all been there.

“I think it’ll be a mixture of things, he’s a man in form, scored five in five, wanted to continue that vein of form and shoot his side to victory. I understand the frustrations and it comes out like that.

“[Paul] Pogba down the tunnel after him. A club like Manchester United with the depth they have in their squad should be able to get the job done.

“You have to remember the players that were missing in this Everton team, neither of their strikers played. It’s probably the weakest they’ve been for a while. You’d expect United to go and beat them.

‘Nine games without a clean sheet is a poor record for Man United. That’s what undone them today they controlled large parts of this game but give up a lot of chances.”

On Everton’s goal, Ferdinand claims Ronaldo was also making it clear to teammates on how to stop it.

“Man United at that time, Cristiano says take him early in the play, the foreign teams are cute in those positions and counter-attacks with cheeky fouls would’ve stopped and prevented that,” he added.

“You can see him there, telling them ‘take him out, smash him’.”

Jenas praise for Everton

His fellow pundit Jermaine Jenas, meanwhile, claims Everton were worthy of a point.

He also picked out three players he felt were key for Rafa Benitez’s side.

“I wouldn’t say it was coming but Everton were growing and getting better and better in that second half.

“Pace and power and quality is what they had in abundance in Doucoure and Townsend and Demarai Gray, that is counter-attacking at his best.

“All sorted from that weight and strength from Demarai Gray.”
