Lloris reveals big belief going round Tottenham camp ahead of Man Utd showdown

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has insisted that his team-mates have firm belief in their plan ahead of their clash with Manchester United.

Spurs looked to have turned a corner with three wins in a row recently, but they have since gone backwards. Indeed, two defeats on the spin have put the pressure back on manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Tottenham’s fringe players lost 1-0 to Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

The first-choice players – the likes of Harry Kane and Oliver Skipp – then lost 1-0 to West Ham on Sunday.

Burnley are up next for Spurs in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. However, United travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday in their next Premier League game.

The Red Devils and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are under mounting pressure following a 5-0 loss to rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Spurs are also under pressure, but captain Lloris has insisted that he can see belief in a plan under Nuno.

“We know that there are a lot of expectations, same as every season, on our shoulders and the players have a responsibility to do their best,” he told the Daily Express.

“And when I see all the players I think they are trying to do their best. But sometimes it does not work but that is not the moment to give up. We need to carry on with a good energy and positiveness.

“We cannot give up – there are many games ahead of us and we are going to try to improve individually and collectively.”

Tottenham’s first season under Nuno would ideally end with a spot in European competition next term.

Consistency key for Tottenham

A top-four finish remains in sight, but Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool look the strongest three sides. As for who could finish fourth, West Ham currently occupy that spot.

According to Lloris, consistency is vital for Tottenham going forward if they are to make the Champions League next season.

“Clearly we need to keep working, keep fighting. There is no big difference between the teams for the European places,” he said.

“Consistency is the key. When you face a direct opponent you have to take the points or at least, as I say, not lose. It is painful and we need to move on.”

Tottenham currently sit sixth in the Premier League, a point ahead of Man Utd.
