Chelsea left frustrated after Dyche dice roll earns Burnley valuable point
Chelsea were left frustrated after two Burnley substitutes combined to score a late goal and take a valuable point off the league leaders.
The Blues were breezing to victory after Kai Havertz had scored a first-half header. But as chances came and went, the Clarets grew in hope. And after coming off the bench, Matej Vydra levelled to share the spoils.
Thomas Tuchel made four changes from the midweek Champions League trip to Malmo. Ross Barkley was handed a first Premier League start of the season in place of Hakim Ziyech.
Reece James and Ben Chilwell reclaimed their full-back spots, while N’Golo Kante returned for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Meanwhile, Sean Dyche named an unchanged Burnley side.
Callum Hudson-Odoi registered the first shot on target with a low effort across goal. The rebound fell back to him which he fired wide.
Defender Andreas Christensen went close too when his glancing header was directed just past the post.
The Clarets were feeling the pressure early on. Nick Pope had to save a Jorginho header before yet another corner was nodded over by Antonio Rudiger.
Barkley wasn’t far away from getting the opener as his effort from outside the box curled past the top corner.
Burnley’s main threat this season, Maxwel Cornet, unsurprisingly found the target for his side for the first time in the game with an acrobatic effort.
That was as good as it got for the visitors in the first half, though.
Following a tumble into the advertising hoardings, Havertz dusted himself down to head home James’ cross for 1-0.
Chelsea then cruised into the break with the advantage.
It was nearly two not long after the restart. Another pinpoint James cross this time found Thiago Silva, whose header deflected onto the post and bounced out.
The right-back was covering significant ground and led the next attack down the middle of the pitch.

Pope saves maintained hope
The ball was worked wide to Hudson-Odoi who crossed for Havertz, but his first-time effort went wide.
Pope kept Burnley in it when Hudson-Odoi, after receiving the ball from Barkley, sent a low drive goal-bound and forced a stop.
Both managers made changes with Jay Rodriguez and Vydra coming on for Burnley, and Loftus-Cheek replacing Barkley.
And Dyche’s roll of the dice worked perfectly. A looping cross for Matthew Lowton was headed across the face of goal for his fellow sub to turn home.
Tuchel made a further two changes. Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic were brought on as the Blues searched for a response.
The hosts piled forward as the clock ticked down and Silva had a volley fly over the bar from another corner.
But they couldn’t find another goal and were forced to settle for a draw.
