Liverpool given glimmer of hope as PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe makes massive Real Madrid revelation
PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has declared that he will not join Real Madrid in the January transfer window and will instead see out the season in Paris.
The France international was the subject of two offers from the Spanish giants over the summer, only for PSG to rebuff bids believed to be £137million and £145.5m. Indeed, sporting director Leonardo was adamant that the French club would not sell for any less than the £166m fee paid to Monaco for the 23-year-old in 2018.
As a result, Mbappe remained in France as the summer deadline passed. And he is currently enjoying another outstanding campaign at the Parc des Princes.
The World Cup winner has 15 goals and 15 assists in 24 appearances this season. That makes him the club’s top scorer, even among his more high-profile team-mates Lionel Messi and Neymar.
But Mbappe will have a huge decision to make next summer, when his existing PSG deal will end.
Real remain the frontrunners to secure his signature, with January the last chance for Mauricio Pochettino’s men to cash in on the player – if he opts to see out his deal.
However, Mbappe. who has also been heavily linked with Liverpool, has stated that he will not quit PSG for Real in the New Year.
“No, I’m not joining Real Madrid in January. In January it’s not happening,” he told CNN, adding: “I’m with Paris Saint-Germain, I’m really happy and I will 100 per cent finish the season as PSG player.
“I’ll give everything to win with Paris all titles this year.”
Mbappe was also reluctant to divulge his future plans. He added that now is “really not the time” to discuss transfers.
Mbappe fires Real warning as Liverpool wait in the wings
However, he did fire a warning to Real ahead of the Champions League last 16 clash against the Spanish giants.
“The only thing on my mind is to beat Real Madrid in Champions League,” Mbappe said. “We are ready and I am ready to play and give everything for PSG.”
The fact that the superstar forward has decided he will not leave in January appears to suggest that he will walk away for nothing in the summer of 2022.
That opens the door for Liverpool to strike, especially if it comes to who can offer the better financial package.
Premier League clubs are in a healthier state than those in Spain, with Barcelona’s troubles all too clear.
Real themselves have also been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and could see the Reds beat them to the punch.
One thing is for sure, all eyes will still be on Paris when January comes around. That is when Mbappe can sign a pre-contract with a clubs outside of France.
