Iconic AC Milan figure targets Liverpool man, says ‘he would score lots of goals in Serie A’

AC Milan have been urged to go and sign Liverpool substitute Divock Origi this month by one of their former stars.

Demetrio Albertini, 50, who played over 400 times for the Rossoneri between 1988 and 2001 believes the Reds striker would be a huge hit in Italy. Albertini insists that Milan need a goalscorer to overhaul Inter and go on to win the Scudetto.

While Inter have 19 goals from Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko, Milan have been scratching around for goals. They are nine short of Inter’s league total at the halfway stage.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the way with seven Serie A goals this season, but Albertini wants more firepower. And he believes Origi “would score lots of goals in Serie A”.

“Milan need to look to strikers who are kept on the bench or even in the stands and don’t get much space at their current clubs, such as Origi at Liverpool,” Albertini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He would score lots of goals in Serie A. You win a Scudetto thanks to hitmen, and that is a midfielder saying that.”

Origi will be a free agent in the summer with his Anfield contract running down. There is an option to extend his deal but after a bit-part role over the last few seasons that is an unlikely option for the 26-year-old.

Origi has a decent record

Origi is currently sidelined through injury, but he has yet to start in the Premier League this season. He was injured against Milan last month and has been missing ever since.

The forward has netted five goals in 10 appearances this season, but started only in only four of those games.

He remains an iconic figure at Anfield after scoring twice at home to Barcelona in the 2018/19 Champions League semi-finals. He then went on to score in the final triumph over Tottenham.

While he is expected to leave Anfield in the summer, walking away this month does not seem an option for the Belgium international.

Origi ‘the legend’

The Rossoneri are seeking reinforcements for Ibrahimovic, Olivier Giroud and Pietro Pellegri. But Liverpool’s need may well be greater.

Gazzetta dello Sport recently claimed Juventus were ready to make an Origi move their January priority.

But with Roberto Firmino isolating and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the African Cup of Nations, Klopp will likely resist all offers for the player.

Klopp claimed Origi was a “legend” after he came off the bench to net the only goal four minutes into injury-time at Wolves.

“We had to keep going and, yeah. Divock Origi, the legend, came and finished it off for us,” said the Liverpool boss. “I love it!

“He is an incredible finisher and if we don’t know it at Liverpool then who should know it? We saw that so often.”
