Burnley to dip into their pockets with improved bid for League Two wonderkid

Burnley are reportedly planning another bid for Oldham Athletic youngster Harry Vaughan, after the League Two side rejected their initial approach in the summer.

Vaughan was handed his senior debut at Oldham at just 16 years old last season. Indeed, he seems to be a very promising young talent.

Burnley clearly see the midfielder as a top prospect, given they offered £200,000 for him in the summer, and were rebuffed by the League Two side.

A report from the Sun claims the Clarets are going in with a revised offer, above that mark.

It is evident why Sean Dyche’s side are so invested in the 17-year-old. Vaughan has scored two goals and assisted a further two in just 706 minutes of football this season.

While Oldham would likely be keen on retaining the young star, their finances took a hit during the pandemic.

As such, they may be forced into a sale, should Burnley come in with an attractive offer.

Both Vaughan and his teammate Benny Couto could be off to the Premier League. 18-year-old Couto is of interest to Leeds, and Oldham selling the pair would surely raise a good amount.

While Burnley have been keeping a close eye on Vaughan, so have a number of other sides.

The report states that he is of interest to Borussia Monchengladbach and Real Sociedad, among other European sides. The Clarets’ pursuit may not be as simple as they might hope.

Deal for Vaughan much more likely than Benteke

In other news, Burnley have shown an interest in Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke. The sale of Chris Wood has left the Clarets in need of another striker.

While Benteke could have been a quality player for the Turf Moor outfit, it seems they will be left high and dry.

A report has stated that Benteke is not willing to move on from Palace. Given the Eagles’ healthy 11th-placed league position, that seems a smart decision.

As such, the Clarets will need to pursue another target.
