Conte gets his man as Paratici calls in favours to seal bargain Tottenham transfer of Villa target
Tottenham are finally set to deliver the first signing of the Antonio Conte reign after a deal was struck to bring Rodrigo Bentancur to the club from Juventus.
Following the dismay of losing out to Liverpool over Luis Diaz, Spurs fans could’ve been forgiven for wondering if their fortunes would ever change. However, Tottenham’s hierarchy quickly put that disappointment to bed when lodging a double approach for Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
And according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Spurs now have their man with a deal agreed for the transfer of Bentancur.
He claims Tottenham director Fabio Paratici has struck on an agreement with his former club to bring the Uruguayan to north London.
Spurs will pay an initial £15.8m (€19m) with a further £4.9m (€6m) in bonuses, taking the deal to £20.7m.
He is expected to sign a three and a half year deal at the club, through to summer 2025.
He will add steel and style to their midfield. Indeed, Conte saw him as an ideal partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the centre of the park.
Juventus, for their part, are looking to bring in Deniz Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach as his replacement.
The Swiss midfielder, 25, is out of contract in the summer, and his transfer value has diminished as a result.
Juventus are reportedly prepared to act early and sign him this month. As such, they are reportedly in talks over a €5m, plus add-ons, deal.
Bentancur picks Tottenham over Aston Villa
Bentancur had also emerged on the radar of Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.
However, per the Birmingham Mail, the combative midfielder snubbed Villa in favour of chancing his arm at Tottenham. They speculate the influence of Spurs chief Paratici may have been key in that development.
His move will now be finalised before the end of the day, with Spurs happy to meet Juve’s demands.
The transfer will also end Conte’s long transfer frustrations.
He has been pushing Paratici and Tottenham hard to make a number of changes.
Indeed, he is likely to soon be followed by his Juve teammate Dejan Kulusevski.
That said, one pundit reckons Spurs have been ‘swindled’ over the pair of stars with clubs ‘smelling their desperation’.
