‘He’s in the top three’ – Leicester ace rated among league’s best from Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea

James Maddison made a big “top three” claim about Kasper Schmeichel following the 3-1 Leicester City win against Randers last week.

Maddison starred in Leicester’s Europa Conference League win last week. The 25-year-old scored a brace as the Foxes advanced to the next round.

While Maddison was one of the shining lights, he was full of praise for his captain after the goalkeeper’s stellar display.

“He was brilliant wasn’t he? The pitch cost him a clean sheet which is really frustrating,” he said via Leicester Mercury.

Leicester have kept just four clean sheets this season, three of which came in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers’ side are performing below their usual standards, and are 13th in the table.

Despite that, Maddison made a big claim about Schmeichel.

“He’s a top goalkeeper, I think he’s in the top three of the Premier League,” he said.

Most would deem Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Man City’s Ederson as the two finest stoppers in England.

However, Man Utd fans have seen David de Gea return to his world class best this season, and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy was in spectacular form once again during the EFL Cup final. Putting Schmeichel among and ahead of some of those names indicates the belief Maddison has in the Foxes keeper.

Schmeichel has performed consistently in the Leicester goal for years. In fact, he has kept 141 clean sheets for the side since joining in 2011.

Maddison also admitted how a clean sheet would have bred confidence for the whole team.

“We’ve got a keeper like Kasper and a defence who 100 per cent care about it. It’s important for the attacking players because we know what it means for everyone and as a defensive unit it means you’re doing the right things,” he said.

Schmeichel understands Leicester problems

Leicester’s form has clearly dropped this season, and as captain, Schmeichel is well aware of that matter. However, he does not think Leicester should worry.

“We have struggled with our form, it hasn’t been as consistent as we would want it,” he said.

“You’re going to have seasons where you have problems with consistency. You have to mitigate it as much as you can.”

Fans and players alike at Leicester will hope for an upturn in form at some point soon.
