Zidane exit could spell end for expensive Real Madrid flop; Chelsea move tipped

Zinedine Zidane’s departure from Real Madrid could lead to time being called on Eden Hazard’s time with the Spanish giants.

Zidane announced last week that he is quitting the Bernabeu for the second time. Having left in the summer of 2018, he returned in March 2019, winning La Liga last season. However, he has stepped down after Los Blancos’ finished the season trophyless for the first time since 2010.

During his second spell in charge, the Frenchman oversaw the signing of Hazard from Chelsea. After shining for the Blues in the Premier League, the attacker joined in a big-money deal that could have reached £150million.

So far, though, Hazard has failed to reproduce his top form in Spain. In his two years with the club, he played just 43 games and scored only five times. Injuries have heavily hampered his time there.

But despite questions over his future in the Spanish capital, Zidane always stood by him. That gave the Belgian a sense of security despite his struggles.

However, with the manager now gone, a report by AS (via Daily Star) states that Madrid will look to move him on this summer.

As well as his poor return, Hazard also soured his relationship with his club and their fans when he was spotted laughing with former Chelsea teammates after the Blues eliminated Real from the Champions League.

Therefore, it may be deemed that things are not going to work out for him in Madrid.

Hazard tipped to make Chelsea return

The report names Chelsea as a potential destination for the 30-year-old should he shipped out.

Hazard was a firm favourite at Stamford Bridge between 2012 and 2019. In 352 outings he scored 110 goals and assisted a further 92, claiming six major trophies along the way.

The player made no secret of his enjoyment of his time in London too. Indeed, it was recently claimed that he would favour a switch back to the Blues should he leave Madrid in the coming months.

Given that relationship, Chelsea may be tempted by the opportunity to bring him back. They may be able to do so for €50million (£43.4m), with that claimed to be the fee Real would demand.
