Ralf Rangnick reacts to talk of taking Man Utd job on permanent basis; reveals winning formula to beat City

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has reacted to be asked if he thought about taking the Old Trafford job on a permanent basis.

The German took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker chief in late November and has only lost one of his 17 games in charge, although eight of those have ended in draws.

United fans have not really taken to the RB Leipzig boss, who will take up an advisory role when a new permanent manager is appointed in the summer.

However, at his press conference for Sunday’s huge derby clash with Manchester City, Rangnick was asked if he could continue in his current role next term.

His response, however, was fairly emphatic, saying: “I have no idea. I haven’t made any thoughts about that because my focus is on Sunday and then on Tottenham and Atletico.

“There is no time for me to think about that.”

He was then asked about the state of play with regards who could take over at Old Trafford.

The German added: “I don’t know. That would obviously depend on the manager next season. Every head coach has his idea of football. But for me is about continuing at the highest level.

“For me, Jurgen [Klopp] and Pep are two of the best coaches in Europe. They have a clear idea of football and having a vision.”

Rangnick template for beating City

Rangnick will go toe-to-toe with league leaders City on Sunday and knows what it will take to beat them.

He added: “In the end, it is about controlling the game, not letting them play without pressure. This is what they want, overloading spaces.

“The goalkeeper almost plays as a centre-back and the full-back a No.6 midfielder.

“For us, it is about finding moments where we can take the ball away from them and make the best of those transitional moments. It is up to us on Sunday to show that we can do that.”
