Insider claims shock Everton option is on the cards as Frank Lampard rumours grow

Everton reportedly have the option of terminating Frank Lampard’s Goodison Park contract at the end of the season, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

After a bright start to his Toffees tenure, with Everton winning two of his first three games in charge, things have started to turn sour very quickly for the former Chelsea manager on Merseyside.

In the seven Premier League since Lampard replaced Rafa Benitez as permanent boss, Everton have lost five. They were also demolished 4-0 by Crystal Palace in the FA Cup last weekend.

The string of poor results and performances have led to Lampard questioning his players. However, there are growing rumours that the former England midfielder will not be in the job for very long.

And Jones has added fuel to that fire with his latest comments.

He revealed that the Toffees do have the ability to get rid of Lampard without going through the compensation process.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, he claimed: “From what I’m told, Everton do have the option to part ways with Lampard at the end of the season.

“I think it’s only a one-way thing, so it doesn’t count for Lampard too, as far as I understand it.”

Everton facing tougher run-in than rivals

Everton are currently three points clear of 18th-placed Watford but have two games less than the Hornets.

However, Burnley, in 19th, have played the same number of games and are only four points behind. Lampard’s men also arguably have the toughest run-in of the fellow relegation rivals.

They still have trips to West Ham, Liverpool and Arsenal to come, plus home games against Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Toffees are next in action when they host the Hammers on April 3 after the international break.
