Arsenal told they can sign Ruben Neves for hefty price this summer subject to one condition

Arsenal have been given the green light to sign Ruben Neves from Wolves this summer amid a major claim over his future at Molineux.

The Gunners are in the market for more new signings summer as Mikel Arteta looks to add quality additions to his squad. Arteta and Edu invested to the tune of around £125m in summer 2021, in an effort to get the Gunners upwardly mobile. And their stance appears to have paid off, with Arsenal currently fourth and looking good value to secure a Champions League return.

As such, plans to further strengthen their squad are already underway. Arsenal will be in need of at least one new striker this summer and that is likely to be their priority. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving for Barcelona, Eddie Nketiah and, most probably, Alexandre Lacazette are likely to leave on frees.

The Gunners are looking at a host of big names as a result, with Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin among those mentioned.

However, they are also want to add more quality to their midfield. And Portuguese star Neves is a name regularly mentioned as an Arsenal target.

Now, The Sun claims the Gunners have been given the clearest indication yet they can land their man.

The Portuguese star is currently on a deal at Molineux that expires in summer 2024. Talks over an extension are ongoing but are yet to see an agreement reached. Now, the paper claims those talks will gather pace in the coming weeks.

Wolves update on Ruben Neves talks

However, if no agreement is reached, Wolves will make the decision to put Neves on the market. They will reportedly look to offload him this summer to ensure they receive the maximum market value for the 25-year-old.

As such, they claim the Gunners will be told they will have the green light to bring him to London. That is, on the condition that they meet their asking price for the player.

Shedding light on the talks, Wolves technical director Scott Sellars addressed local paper the Express and Star.

“We’re obviously talking to him and we all know how much he loves playing for the club. We know how much he has settled here, but he is also an ambitious young man,” Sellars said.

“As with all players, you try and have an open dialogue with them and their representative. Together, we have to come to the best scenario for the club and the player.

“Rightly so, elite clubs all over Europe will have Ruben on their radar. But we have an excellent relationship with him and will do things properly, and collaboratively, when the time is right.

“Ruben is having a fantastic season. Everybody should take a pat on the back in terms of how well he is playing.”

And while a price is not mentioned in the report, Wolves are likely to seek around £40m for the midfielder.

Neves has made 207 appearances for Wolves, scoring 24 goals during that time.

Neves has also been linked with a move to Barcelona, though their stance means a Premier League move looks more likely.
