Klopp tipped for major double summer deal to set up ‘incredible’ Liverpool attack after his exit

Liverpool could sell a star attacker this summer and sign a replacement to set the Reds up for after Jurgen Klopp leaves, one pundit has said.

Klopp initially rubberstamped his attack-minded vision for the club with the signing of Sadio Mane in 2016. Mohamed Salah followed in 2017, signing from Roma. The pair starred alongside Roberto Firmino in leading Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League glory.

Liverpool then faced questions over how they would transition from the trio as they approached the end of their current contracts, while also entering their thirties.

And Klopp has delivered in style, signing Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. The players have fitted in seamlessly at Anfield and the subsequent extra depth in attack is driving a Liverpool quadruple push this season.

Meanwhile, the contracts of Salah, Firmino and Mane expire at the end of next season. The biggest spotlight has been on Salah amid his stunning form, but Liverpool could yet lose all three players.

Indeed, former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has claimed that the Reds could sell one of the trio and sign a replacement. And given Klopp’s record of getting his signingsr right, the pundit insisted that Liverpool will be in good hands for after Klopp’s exit in 2024.

“That attack is just frightening, look at the options they have.” the pundit told Football Insider.

“No disrespect to the old front three, I know they still have years ahead of them, but Liverpool could look to move one of them on.

“Especially Mane or Firmino because they haven’t been as good as Jota this season.

“If that happens, I think you will see them go out and sign a world-class replacement.

“Then, in five years, you will have seen another incredible Liverpool front three of Jota, Diaz, and this new guy.”

Liverpool have had links with a number of potential new signings. AC Milan star Rafael Leao – a Portugal team-mate of Jota’s – could be an option amid Milan’s interest in Divock Origi.

Reds chiefs have also reportedly accelerated their interest in PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo.

Klopp, Liverpool basking in squad depth

Despite the uncertainty over Salah, Mane and Firmino, Liverpool must continue to enjoy their present selection headaches.

Klopp has five genuine options up front, all fighting for game time. As such, the Reds look closer than ever to Manchester City as regards depth in attack.

Indeed, criticism for the lack of solid options from the bench has been levelled at Liverpool in recent seasons.

As well as the quintet, Origi and Takumi Minamino have also proved their worth at times this season.

The pair were the key driving force for much of the run to the Carabao Cup final.

All that is without mentioning Harvey Elliott, who played in the front three in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Nottingham Forest.
