Arsenal learn how to catch Man City, Liverpool as Carragher names ‘next level’ signing

Jamie Carragher has told Arsenal the one signing which would ‘take them up a level’, helping the Gunners to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool.

Arsenal are enjoying an impressive season under Mikel Arteta. They have won five of their last six Premier League matches and are the favourites to snatch fourth spot.

The club put their faith in Arteta to rejuvenate the team and he has done just that.

Summer signings Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Martin Odegaard have all been great. You can add Takehiro Tomiyasu to that list too – it’s clear to see why Arsenal fans are so happy with their manager.

Despite the positives in north London, Arsenal are still someway behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Carragher has put them in the category just behind the Prem’s top three. The pundit also named the one position they need to bolster to catch up.

“Arsenal need to get fourth, and when you’re likening it to what [Jurgen] Klopp did at Liverpool, Arsenal are at the stage where they haven’t got a [Cristiano] Ronaldo. They haven’t got a [Harry] Kane,” Jamie Carragher said on The Overlap (via the Daily Mirror).

Jamie Carragher tells Arsenal to get world-class improvements

“The next two or three signings for Arsenal have to be Alisson, have to be [Virgil] van Dijk, what they were for Liverpool.

“Where they take you from fighting for the top four, getting in the top four, to making that jump where you’re competing with City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea.

“That’s Arsenal’s next thing. They need a really top centre-forward who can really take them up a level.”

Arteta’s next task is to revamp the club’s striker options. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette’s contract is running down.

The Gunners were in the mix for Dusan Vlahovic but saw him join Juventus.

An alternative is Inter star Lautaro Martinez. His record stands at 16 goals in 39 games this term, so it’s easy to see why Arsenal want him.

Italian source Calciomercato claim it will take a £59m bid to land the Argentine.

Should Martinez but unobtainable, then Arsenal could move for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin instead.
