Fresh detail revealed about Rangnick influence in new Man Utd role, but key ‘mystery’ still lingers

Ralf Rangnick will work six days a month when he steps into his consultancy role at Manchester United, according to a report.

The German is in interim charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season. His firm focus for now is trying to salvage a top-four Premier League finish from his squad. However, United chiefs agreed a deal to keep the 63-year-old at Old Trafford from there.

Rangnick will spend two seasons as a consultant working with club chiefs on a range of issues. While the manager has significant experience in the dugout, he has also worked as a sporting director at RB Leipzig.

As a result, Man Utd‘s transfer strategy is one particular issue he is likely to advise on. In fact, he has already given his advice to the club’s board on improving their recruitment.

Little more is known of the Rangnick will play at Old Trafford. However, the Daily Mail claims to have learned that he will work six days a month.

Over his two-year spell, that amounts to 144 days in his upcoming job helping to get United back on track.

The newspaper adds that United have so far not asked Rangnick for advice on who should succeed him as manager..

Ajax’s Erik ten Hag is a frontrunner, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino also in the frame.

But, the Daily Mail adds that ‘mystery’ remains over what input Rangnick could actually have, given the new structure at Man Utd.

John Murtough has become the football director and works closely with technical director Darren Fletcher. Meanwhile, Matt Judge is a senior figure in transfer talks.

Rangnick helped put RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg on the map with his work in the Red Bull football stable.

Leipzig have built up a reputation for developing exciting talent from across the world. And while they are ultimately happy to sell their big players, they do so for significant profit and re-invest in future stars.

Man Utd eye Rangnick inspiration

United would of course look to keep their star players as they look to build new foundations to get back in the hunt for silverware.

Nevertheless, Rangnick’s work at Leipzig in identifying young talent could serve Man Utd well.

For now, though, a lot of the focus is on player exits at Old Trafford. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata are set to leave as free agents.

Whoever the new manager is has a task on their hands to rebuild the squad in their vision ahead of another crucial season.
