Paper Talk: Tottenham star confirms fresh interest from abroad and drops Conte admission; Lampard future latest
A Tottenham star has revealed transfer interest from abroad, while Friday’s Paper Talk also offers the latest on the future of Frank Lampard at Everton.
EMERSON ROYAL CONFIRMS ATLETICO INTEREST
Tottenham full-back Emerson Royal has confirmed that Atletico Madrid have transfer interest in his services.
The Brazilian right-back arrived in north London last summer as a Nuno Espirito Santo signing. Indeed, Spurs looked to him with a remit of finally solving their woes in that position.
Emerson has played 23 Premier League games this season but has more recently lost out to the resurgence of Matt Doherty.
Reports in January claimed that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte wanted Adama Traore in as a replacement for Emerson.
And despite Spurs failing to get their man – and the right-back continuing his first-team duties – Emerson still has links with a move away.
Atletico Madrid reportedly have interest in the 23-year-old as they look to beef up their full-back ranks. Conte, meanwhile, is reportedly now going after Torino right-back Wilfried Singo.
Speaking to Cadena Ser, former Barcelona star Emerson spoke out on his links with a move back to La Liga. He admitted that he doesn’t have a clear picture of his future under Conte as the manager looks to reshape his squad.
“Yes, it has come to me that Atletico has been interested in me,” Emerson said.
“But now I’m in a good moment at Tottenham, I don’t know what will happen in the future. I like that the teams are watching my football.”
Conte managed to fit both Emerson and Doherty into his team for last Sunday’s 5-1 win over Newcastle.
Doherty switched to the left, with Emerson staying on the right – and both players grabbed a goal.
PAPER TALK – FRANK LAMPARD RETAINS EVERTON BACKING
Frank Lampard still has the backing from the Everton board following Wednesday’s damaging defeat to Burnley.
The threat of relegation for the Toffees went up a notch with a 3-2 loss at Turf Moor.
Everton had led come from behind to lead 2-1 but then squandered the lead and allowed the 18th-placed Clarets to move a point behind their rivals.
Speculation therefore emerged that Everton chief Farhad Moshiri was on his way to Liverpool to speak to manager Lampard.
However, the Daily Mail reports that that is not the case. Furthermore, Moshiri will not be present at Goodison Park for Sunday’s clash with Manchester United.
Moshiri will continue to observe Lampard’s progress from afar, amid a tough run-in for the Blues.
After Man Utd, they still have to go to Liverpool and then Arsenal on the final day of the season.
Everton also play Chelsea at Goodison Park at the start of May.
PAPER TALK – PSG MAKE KYLIAN MBAPPE OFFER
Paris Saint-Germain have offered Kylian Mbappe €150million (£125million) over two seasons to stay with the French giants, according to Guillem Balague.
The 23-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season and it remains unclear if he will stay or go.
He has looked increasingly likely to sign for Real Madrid as a free agent in recent months.
But more recently, he insisted that “new parameters” are forcing him to re-think his future. European football expert Balague has claimed that Madrid is still Mbappe’s “desired destination”.
But the reporter added via his Twitter page that PSG have offered him a massive £125million contract in a bid to keep him at the Parc des Princes.
However, Mbappe wants Los Blancos to pay him more.
