Tottenham still have a chance to sign strike ace according to in the know former director
Tottenham are still in the hunt for Paulo Dybala following claims that Spurs director Fabio Paratici is still “crazy” about the striker after signing him for Juventus.
Dybala is set to leave Juventus on a free transfer at the end of the season. Inter Milan are in the box seat to do a deal but Tottenham are also still in the mix. That is according to former Palermo director Rino Foschi.
Foschi was involved in the deal that saw Dybala leave Palermo for Juve back in 2015. There were offers on the table from Napoli and Inter Milan at the time. However Paratici, then at Juve, came in and blew the offers out of the water.
Paratici a huge admirer
Paratici talked the powers that be at Juve in to splashing the cash and it paid off. The Argentina international turned out to be a snip in fact.
“Juve arrived with an offer of 30m cash on the table,” Foschi told 1 Station Radio. “The two directors didn’t agree with (Dybala)’s valuation. Marotta thought it excessive, while Paratici wanted him at all costs.”
Dybala has bagged 113 goals and 48 assists in 285 appearances for Juventus, so it was money well spent. And Foschi believes that is why Tottenham cannot be ruled out of the chase right now.
Inter Milan hope to have more luck this time, but a deal has not been agreed as yet. Indeed Inter have yet to show their hand and make an offer. But it’s not far way with talks said to be ongoing.
Reports claim that Dybala has knocked back all interest from other clubs because he has set his heart on Inter. That would be a hammer blow to Tottenham’s hopes.
Inter seem the perfect fit for Dybala. He can continue playing in Serie A and the Champions League and would not need to uproot his family.
So more money and a chance to play in the Premier League is no motivator for him.
Even so Foschi says until a deal is signed, Spurs still have a chance because of Paratici.
Tottenham still an option
“Currently, the Inter path seems the most likely,” Foschi added. “But I wouldn’t exclude Tottenham, given how crazy Paratici is for him.”
Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the striker. However if he does head to England Tottenham would be the likeliest destination for him.
The Paratici and Antonio Conte combination would surely win the day. But for now he has his heart set on Inter and a move looks sure to happen in the summer.
