West Ham United’s stance on Declan Rice transfer could pose problem for suitors

West Ham United will not sell Declan Rice this summer regardless of whether he does or does not sign a new contract.

That is the news being relayed by Sky Sports after the England man turned down another contract offer at the club. Widespread reports on Friday claimed that Rice has rejected a third West Ham contract offer. And what’s more the England man was , according to The Guardian now ‘open’ to leaving.

His progress is being tracked by both Manchester clubs and Chelsea. But David Moyes has slapped a huge price tag on the 23-year-old.

He is arguably the best player the Premier League has to offer currently playing for a club outside of the traditional top six. He continues to take his game to new heights. And will be England’s main man in the middle at the Qatar World Cup later in 2022.

That led Moyes to suggest that £150m was a “minimum” for Rice, but stressed the player was “not for sale”.

And now Sky Sports insist Rice will start next season in the claret and blue of West Ham.

His present deal runs out in the summer of 2024, but West Ham have the option of extending it by another year. That option seems almost inevitable as the Hammers aim to protect their star man.

As per the report, Moyes will be able to call on Rice next season, but keeping him beyond that maybe difficult. The powerhouse will put his skills on show in front of the world in Qatar this winter.

West Ham could sell Rice in 2023

And West Ham would then be prepared to sell Rice for the right price in the summer of 2023, if he does not pen a new contract.

That will come as a blow to the Premier League’s elite, who have all earmarked Rice this summer.

Rice is understood to be high up on Erik ten Hag’s wish-list at Old Trafford, according to The Guardian.

The Dutch boss is set to revamp his midfield. But it looks as though he will have to be patient if he wants to land Rice. The Ajax boss’ need to reshape his midfield sooner rather than later may well rule out Rice.

He has already been linked with being reunited with Frenkie de Jong, while talks with Kalvin Phillips are understood to be underway.
