Chelsea want to sign 24-year-old because he has unique qualities like UCL finalist
Chelsea are looking to improve their defensive unit with the signing of the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi at the end of the season.
According to Mick Brown from Football Insider, the reason they have identified the 24-year-old England international as a target is because of his composure and quality in possession. Brown believes that Chelsea are looking to sign someone like Marquinhos from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian has been exceptional for PSG, and he has helped them reach the final of the UEFA Champions League this season.
Brown said: “Look at PSG, for example, somebody like Marquinhos.
“He looks like a midfielder playing at the back, he’s so composed and calm in possession.
“So Chelsea have looked at them, and that’s the type of player and influence they want at the back.
“They don’t have that at the moment but they’re working on it, that’s why they’re looking at people like Marc Guehi who do a similar job.”

Guehi has done quite well for Crystal Palace this season, and he has helped them win the FA Cup. Apart from his defensive qualities, he is assured with the ball at his feet, and he reads the game well. There is no doubt that he is one of the best defenders in the league, and he could prove to be an excellent acquisition for Chelsea.
The Blues have secured Champions League qualification for the next season, and they will look to improve the squad during the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old defender will want to compete at a high level as well. Joining Chelsea would provide him with the platform to compete in the Champions League next season. It remains to be seen whether he is ready to return to his boyhood club. He might feel that he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.
Guehi has been linked with Tottenham as well.
Crystal Palace are under pressure to sell the player this summer, especially because of his contract situation. He will be out of contract in 2026, and the Eagles cannot afford to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer.
