Slot discloses Liverpool transfer plan after Jeremie Frimpong suffers serious inury

Liverpool were dealt another injury setback on a night of Champions League celebration as Jeremie Frimpong was forced off just four minutes into the Reds’ clash with Qarabag.

The Dutch international appeared to suffer a groin problem almost immediately after kick-off, prompting an early substitution that saw Wataru Endo introduced to stabilise Liverpool’s right side.

The moment summed up a frustrating debut season on Merseyside for Frimpong, whose campaign has been repeatedly interrupted by muscle injuries.

Although the issue against Qarabag appeared to be related to his groin, it is his hamstring problems that have plagued him throughout the 2025-26 season.

Those recurring setbacks have already caused him to miss 18 matches for club and country, preventing him from building rhythm or consistency since his arrival at Anfield.

Speaking after the match, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot addressed the injury and speculation surrounding potential reinforcements at right-back.

Slot was calm but realistic when asked about the situation, saying, as reported by Fabrizio Romano:

“Frimpong will be out for a period of time, yes. We as a club always make smart decisions”.

“We look at the long term; we don’t have 4 RBs and 12 No. 9s”.

The comments suggest Liverpool will not rush into a panic signing despite the growing concern over Frimpong’s fitness record.

Liverpool’s recruitment strategy remains focused on sustainability and squad balance rather than short-term fixes.

Crucially, Frimpong’s early exit did little to disrupt Liverpool’s performance on the pitch.

The Reds responded emphatically, producing a dominant 6-0 victory at Anfield.

The result showed their attacking depth and tactical control, with Endo adapting seamlessly after being deployed in an unfamiliar role.

The emphatic win also carried major significance in Europe. Liverpool’s victory confirmed their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16, with the club finishing third in the league phase.
