Sources: Man United face last minute decision on ‘technical’ player wanted by Euro giants

Manchester United could face a late decision over Noussair Mazraoui, with AC Milan continuing to be linked with a move for the versatile Morocco international.

The 28-year-old remains a useful member of United’s squad because of his ability to operate at full-back, wing-back or on the right side of a back three.

However, Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Milan has added an interesting dimension to the situation, with the Portuguese coach already familiar with Mazraoui from their time together at Old Trafford.

Former Man United manager, and current Milan manager Ruben Amorim described Mazraoui as a ‘technical‘ player.

Amorim remains an admirer of Noussair Mazraoui

Sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that Milan are considering Mazraoui as they assess their defensive options before the transfer deadline, although the situation has fluctuated throughout the summer.

Mazraoui switched representation to Panthera during the transfer window which has indicated his intention of a move away from Old Trafford.

Amorim likes the defender, although Milan’s interest had cooled at that stage because another potential defensive departure had been blocked.

United are also under no contractual pressure to sell. Mazraoui joined from Bayern Munich in August 2024 and has demonstrated his versatility across several defensive positions.

His contract runs until 2028, giving United a strong negotiating position.

United should only sell for a strong offer

Mazraoui is exactly the type of player managers normally prefer to keep.

He may not always be guaranteed a starting position, but his tactical flexibility gives United valuable cover across several areas of the defence.

That becomes particularly important over a long season involving injuries, suspensions and fixture congestion.

A move to Milan would still make sense from the player’s perspective. Amorim already understands his qualities and could potentially offer him a clearer role within his preferred system.

For United, though, there should be no reason to accept a bargain offer.

With Mazraoui under contract for another two years and capable of covering multiple positions, any sale should come at a price that allows the club to properly replace him.
