Agent fails to halt growing transfer talk as Portuguese media push 11-goal winger to Liverpool

The agent of Luis Diaz has failed to pour cold water on speculation linking the Porto winger with Liverpool and Manchester City.

It’s worth pointing out that Carlos Van Strahalen has not fuelled the speculation either, but he did not shoot down the talk. Radio Renascença, via Sport Witness, have probed Van Strahalen about the future of his Colombian client.

Spanish outlet AS claims that Man City will go head-to-head with Jurgen Klopp’s men to land the 24-year-old.

The Reds are said to be looking at Diaz as a useful squad addition in January. Of course, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will be away on AFCON duty and Klopp may well be looking at bringing in some cover.

And Diaz, according to the Portuguese press, is a man being heavily scrutinised in England. His 11 goals and two assists in 16 games in all competitions has got the attention of Premier League scouts.

Chelsea and Everton are also showing interest in Diaz. Everton though may well be priced out of a move with the player having a reported release clause of £68m.

However, O Jogo (via Sport Witness) state that Everton “continue to pay attention” to the talented forward.

“It’s normal. If a player plays well, if he starts to stand out, if the majority considers him the best player in the Portuguese League, if he’s the top scorer and is making a high-level Champions League, that interest is normal,” Van Strahalen told Radio Renascença.

Newcastle join Diaz hunt

“Can he leave Porto? I don’t know, I can’t even talk much at the moment, because I’m in a meeting, we’ll talk later.”

Newcastle have also joined the hunt for Diaz. But Portuguese publication Record, still claim that Liverpool are the main contenders for his signature.

While Radio Renascença only names Liverpool as one of the suitors to sign the Colombia international. It appears in Portugal they are pushing Diaz to Anfield. But whether or not Klopp has any real interest ahead of a January deal remains unclear.

Liverpool are not renowned for making a splash in the January window and a loan deal is more likely. Last season Klopp plugged his defence with the temporary signing of Ozan Kabak before sending him back to Schalke in the summer.
