Agent’s denial jolts Chelsea hopes of landing £42m midfielder, but Prem rival await
Chelsea have received a rare piece of good news regarding Aurelien Tchouameni, though they won’t have a transfer for the the French ace all their own way, per a report.
The Blues’ off-field turmoil sees them currently unable to sign or sell players this summer. They are also unable to negotiate new contracts with their current stars, thus putting the futures of their impending free agents in serious doubt.
However, once the club’s takeover has been completed, normal service will resume. By all accounts, that is expected to take place prior to the summer transfer window opening.
Chelsea could therefore be free to spend as they wish under new ownership through the summer months. And per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, they have received a timely boost in their quest to sign Tchouameni.
The Monaco and France midfielder, 22, has developed a reputation for being a midfielder destroyer in Ligue 1.
Tchouamnei regularly leads both the tackles and interceptions charts in France. His combative displays have also seen him become a regular for Didier Deschamps in the national side.
Indeed, Tchouameni notched his first senior France goal in the recent friendly win over Ivory Coast. His exploits over the past few years have predictably seen him emerge on the radars of several elite European clubs.
Links to Real Madrid to ultimately succeed Casemiro had emerged. However, per Romano, there is no agreement with Los Blancos in place.
Chelsea and one other English side chasing Tchouameni
That declaration stems from comments made by Tchouameni’s agent to French outlet Le Parisien. The agent in question denied an agreement over personal terms had been struck with Real, thus opening the door for Chelsea.
Romano added Real and PSG are both ‘following’ Tchouameni’s situation at Monaco. However, they are in direct competition with ‘two Premier League clubs’. While the journalist did not directly name Chelsea, the BBC did.
The Sun also namechecked Chelsea as one of the English clubs chasing Tchouameni. One theory suggests he could be viewed as the long-term successor to N’Golo Kante who has begun to struggle with injury in recent times.
The identity of the second English club is likely to either be Manchester United or Liverpool.
Sports Illustrated chance their arm by naming United, though both they and Liverpool have been named alongside Tchouameni in the past. Going by Romano, one of the pair is interested, but the other not so much.
The Monaco ace had previously been expected to fetch around €60m if sold this summer. However, Goal recently claims the French club will now accept €50m (£42m).
