Andy Carroll possesses perfect trait for proposed new club after Newcastle exit

Andy Carroll possesses a trait perfect for a potential new club weighing up an offer three months after his Newcastle United deal expired, per a report.

Now 32, the former England international is in the autumn of his career. Nonetheless, Carroll will still believe he has plenty to offer despite failing to make an impact in his second spell at Newcastle.

Carroll notched just one goal in 43 outings in his return stint at St. James’ Park. As such, his contract was not renwed this summer as Carroll walked away as a free agent in July.

The burly centre-forward has not found a new club in the months since. But per Sport Witness, an exciting opportunity in Serie A has opened up.

Citing Italian outlet Sportal, they claim Carroll ‘could sign for Cagliari.’

The Serie A strugglers currently sit in 19th position and current boss Walter Mazzarri is on the hunt for a ‘physical striker’ to bolster their ranks.

Few strikers in world football are as physical as Carroll, and his status as a free agent could appeal to Cagliari.

Carroll’s view on uprooting from England to play abroad is unstated in the article. Though he would not be the first English striker to walk a similar path in recent years.

Former Liverpool teammate Daniel Sturridge moved Trabzonspor when searching for regular football in 2019. After his spell in Turkey ended in 2020, Sturridge struggled to find a suitor before landing in Australia with Perth Glory at the beginning of October this year.

Newcastle working on incredible double Atletico deal

Meanwhile, majority Newcastle owner Mohammed bin Salman wants to ‘imitate’ Atletico Madrid by bringing in their manager and sporting director, according to reports.

Spanish outlet AS (via The Sun) write that bin Salman wants to appoint enigmatic Argentine, Diego Simeone.

He is hoping to emulate Atletico’s recent success in La Liga and in Europe. Under Simeone they have won two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and reached two Champions League finals.

The 51-year-old is a charismatic manager with plenty of love for the Atletico faithful. But reports suggest his head can be turned by the offer of an exciting project on Tyneside.

Bin Salman also wants to bring in Atletico’s sporting director, Andrea Berta. He has been integral to the Spanish club’s rise over the past decade.
