Arsenal among five-way Prem tussle after making phone call for €50m defender

Arsenal are one of five Premier League clubs to have made contact for Torino defender Gleison Bremer, while Tottenham have also been to watch him, a report has revealed.

Bremer could be one of the biggest names of the summer transfer window. The Torino centre-back is attracting plenty of interest; there have been frequent links with Liverpool and Manchester United, for example.

His contract with Torino runs until 2024, so it may be the best time for them to sell him now. At 25 years old, whoever takes him will be getting him for the prime of his career.

In Italy, there has been a feeling for a while that the favourites for his signature should be Inter Milan. But Bremer has a lot of suitors in the Premier League, too.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Bremer has been watched by Tottenham recently. La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are also observing him.

But there is a longer queue forming for the Brazilian. The report also reveals that calls have been made by Arsenal, Everton, Leicester City and Newcastle United.

In addition, Bundesliga duo Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are monitoring his progress. As for Serie A, Inter are rivalled by Juventus and Napoli.

Amid all the interest, Torino will be able to set a higher asking price for a key man. Per Gazzetta, they could request €50m for Bremer, which equates to £41.28m.

The former Atletico Mineiro man has played in 29 Serie A games this season. His side Torino are in 11th place at present.

Although that represents progress for the club compared to last season, when they came 17th, Bremer could be destined for even bigger things.

Only time will tell exactly where he ends up. It will all depend on who is willing to come close to Torino’s valuation.

Bremer could get first taste of Premier League football

Bremer has never played in the Premier League before. However, that opportunity may come his way if any of his five potential suitors decide to act.

Tottenham’s interest stems from the fact that Conte plays with a back three. Bremer is comfortable in such a system and the Spurs boss is an admirer, as he looks for a reinforcement.

North London rivals Arsenal are also potentially in need of a defender. Gabriel Magalhaes has been linked with Barcelona – even if he says he feels at home at the Emirates Stadium – while there are doubts over what will happen to William Saliba after he returns from a loan with Marseille. Their link with Bremer seems to be newer.

Everton are at risk of falling into the relegation zone after a poor Premier League season. They have conceded 52 goals from 30 league games and may need to replenish the ranks in the summer.

Newcastle are moving in the opposite direction after investing across their defence in January. There is a feeling they will still want one more centre-back for next season, though.

And Leicester have suffered with a shortage of options when the likes of Wesley Fofana have been out injured. Therefore, more depth may be required at the King Power Stadium.

Whether any can get Bremer to be their next defensive signing remains to be seen.
