Gareth Bale has described Carlo Ancelotti as a “great manager” and expects to speak to the new Real Madrid boss after Euro 2020.

Bale, who has one year left on his Real contract, spent last season on loan at Tottenham but Ancelotti’s return to the Bernabeu after leaving Everton could increase the likelihood of the Wales forward staying in Madrid and not pursuing another temporary move elsewhere.

The 31-year-old scored 16 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions during his second stint in north London.

There have been strong rumours of another loan switch to Spurs. However, Bale is focused purely focused on the Euros before he eventually speaks to Ancelotti.

“I know Carlo Ancelotti is a great manager. I get on with him really well, we had some great times in the past,” Bale said ahead of Wales’ final Euro 2020 warm-up game against Albania in Cardiff on Saturday.

“As soon as the Euros finishes I’m sure I’ll have a conversation and then I’ll go from there.”

Bale said after the final game of his Tottenham loan spell last month that he knows where his future lies after this summer. But he claimed it would “cause chaos” if he reveals it.

Ancelotti was in charge when Bale joined Real from Spurs in September 2013 and the pair won the Champions League together that season.

“I’m not thinking about anything until after the Euros,” Bale said. “I haven’t spoken to anybody. I’m not thinking about my future.”

Rose says Tottenham goodbyes

Meanwhile, Danny Rose insists he has no regrets about his time with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the end of his contract.

The full-back will be released at the end of the month having spent last season in the wilderness, training with the club’s under-23s. It will bring an end to a 14-year spell with Tottenham after he joined them from Leeds United as a teenager in 2007. His long stint with the club has not ended in the way he would have hoped for.

Nevertheless, the 30-year-old insisted he has no regrets, apart from not managing to win any silverware.

Rose told the club’s website: “I’m over the moon that I made that choice to come here in 2007.

“I wish we could have won something together but the club are not far away from that and obviously I wish everybody at the club the best of luck going forward.

“On the whole, the club and the chairman have been brilliant towards me. For 14 years I’ve pretty much driven the same route in to training every day.

“It’s all I’ve known really. It’s going to be strange if and when I join a new team because I’m going to be taking a different route to training. But I’m grateful to the club for bringing me in in 2007 as a 17-year-old and I feel very privileged to have experienced some of Tottenham’s great days.

“I was given an opportunity this season to pass some of that knowledge on. I’d like to think that I’ve done that and I leave the football club a better person, a better professional, a better human than I was when I arrived 14 years ago.”
