Barcelona ‘considering’ second Liverpool move amid Mo Salah interest

Barcelona have been linked with a second Liverpool forward as their interest in Mo Salah rumbles on.

The Spanish giants tried to raid Liverpool earlier this year with the signing of Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum. He was available for free in July after allowing his contract to run down.

Paris Saint-Germain then rushed in to secure his services. The central midfielder has since made eight Ligue 1 appearances but is yet to score.

Barcelona clearly like to scout Liverpool players as they are plotting a move for Egyptian goalscorer Salah. The 29-year-old recently hit a landmark 100 Premier League goals for the Reds, becoming the quickest man in their history to do so.

Uncertainty over his contract is giving Barca chiefs hope they can pull off a transfer coup. His terms expire in 2023 and there are rumours he is asking for an astronomical wage to stay at Anfield.

Salah isn’t the only Liverpool man to be wanted by Ronald Koeman. Spanish outlet Sport write that Barca are ‘considering’ a bid for 26-year-old Divock Origi.

The Belgian has played just two minutes of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign so far. He came on as a late substitute during the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Manager Jurgen Klopp doesn’t seem to need him around as he can rely on Diogo Jota in addition to the famed front three.

Barca believe they can complete a cheap deal taking Origi to La Liga. They are desperate for attacking reinforcements after the departures of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann this summer.

The Blaugrana did sign Sergio Aguero on a free from Manchester City. But the Argentine is yet to make his debut due to a calf problem.

Sport name four other players who could be targeted by the five-time Champions League winners. They are Edinson Cavani, Lorenzo Insigne, Andrea Belotti and Raheem Sterling.

It’s clear that they are targeting players with expiring contracts, although Sterling is an exception. His transfer value is likely to put them off as their budget will be little more than €25million (£21.3m) in January.

Former Liverpool man makes Sadio Mane claim

Jose Enrique believes Mane is rivalling Salah by becoming one of Klopp’s most important stars.

The Senegal international has reached five goals in nine games so far this term. His goalscoring record is only bettered by Salah on Merseyside.

Mane got on the scoresheet as Liverpool drew 2-2 with title rivals Man City on Sunday.

After the match, Enrique told Stats Perform:  “[Liverpool have] really been depending on [Salah and Mane] a lot, you know.

“That’s the reality in the front three really, with [Roberto] Firmino in there as well. But mainly through Mane and Salah; apart from last season for Mane, they have always been the two that have carried the team in terms of goals.

“Obviously defensively while we have many great players and midfielders and everything. But when it comes to scoring the goals, we have always been depending on Mane and Salah really.”
