Ben Foster left open-mouthed after eye-catching Liverpool chat with Salah

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed how Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah left him shocked in a conversation after their recent match.

The pair met at Vicarage Road in the Premier League earlier this month, the visitors winning 5-0. Salah got on the scoresheet with a goal of the season contender, while Roberto Firmino netted a hat-trick.

Sadio Mane also netted, as all three of the Reds’ trademark front trio helped earn the Liverpool win.

As for Salah, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has regularly picked out his professionalism and desire to be the best he can be. In fact, the player himself insisted that always tries to be the greatest player in the world.

Watford goalkeeper Foster has now added weight to such talk after revealing his post-match chat with Salah.

The Egyptian takes penalties for Liverpool, although he did not get a chance to take one against Watford. Nevertheless, that did not stop the forward quizzing Foster on which way he would dive if he took a spot-kick against him.

“Oh my gosh, [Liverpool] are the most well-oiled machine, well-drilled [team], I think maybe, I’ve ever even played against in my whole career,” Foster told his Cycling GK YouTube channel.

“But the bit I want to talk about in particular is the bit about Mo Salah. About what he said to me at full time that made me think, ‘oh my gosh you are so professional, so driven, you want to be the best you can possibly be’.

“So they have just won the game 5-0, Mo Salah I think scored one goal in that game. But he came up to me at full time. He has got his hand over his mouth a little bit because he did not want the cameras really to catch it so much. But he has come up and he’s gone, ‘Ben, Ben,’. I have gone like ‘okay, yeah? You alright?’

“And he is gone, ‘if I’d have got a penalty which way would you have dived?’ Now as soon as he said that, I thought, oh you clever, clever boy. Because we do our research, all the goalkeepers out there do their research on strikers, and we will try and find out where their last four or 10 penalties might have gone.”

Indeed, a picture recently went viral of Foster’s fellow goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s water bottle. The Everton man had stuck on images of three West Ham stars’ penalty tendencies.

“For example, and Mo Salah’s last five penalties he put to the goalkeeper’s right,” Foster added.

“So I have looked at him and I have gone, ‘I’d have gone to my right. I’d have dived to my right because you put your last five penalties to the right’.

“And a big smile came up on his face, a big grin, and he went, ‘Yeah, thank you. I need to know, I need to know’.”

Salah’s hard work has paid off throughout his spell at Liverpool, the forward racking up a century of Premier League goals for the club.

He is currently in negotiations over a new contract, but he reportedly wants £500,000 per week.
