Broken Solskjaer promises inspire bold new exit attempt from Man Utd star

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will step up attempts to find a transfer away in January following his continued career downturn, a report claims.

The Netherlands international arrived as a marquee signing for United last summer. Indeed, he followed Chelsea-bound Hakim Ziyech out of Ajax after reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

However, his lack of game time since the start of last season has meant he has grown frustrated.

And Van de Beek’s frustrations boiled over on Wednesday. When manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Jesse Lingard as his final substitute against Villarreal, the Dutchman threw off his warm-up strip.

He also threw his chewing gum into the dugout, towards where Solskjaer and Lingard were standing.

According to the Daily Mail,  Van de Beek is subsequently ready to try to leave in January.

He had transfer interest from Everton on deadline day this summer, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival. However, his agent revealed how Solskjaer stepped in to block the exit.

Solskjaer gave assurances to Guido Albers that his client would still earn game time this season.

However, Van de Beek has only managed 141 minutes in three appearances in all competitions so far.

The 24-year-old wants to earn a spot in the Netherlands squad for the 2022 World Cup, but he must first get back in manager Louis van Gaal’s thinking.

Indeed, he has not earned a call-up for the upcoming international break because of his lack of football.

Van de Beek has four years left, plus the option of an extra year, on the Man Utd contract he signed.

Lingard winning Van de Beek battle

Amid the midfielder’s lack of game time, Lingard has proven himself to be the best man to go to from the bench.

He set up Ronaldo’s winning goal against Villarreal. What’s more, that assist followed his last-minute Premier League winner against West Ham.

Nevertheless, the England international’s contract runs out at the end of the season.

It remains unclear if he will renew or move on, with the Hammers showing interest in a permanent deal.
