Busy window at Watford continues as Ranieri plots second Pro League raid

Watford are looking to sign a second target from the Belgian Pro League, with Claudio Ranieri eyeing KAS Eupen centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou.

The Hornets have been one of the busiest clubs in the Premier League in the January window. Indeed, Watford have signed three players already, and are reportedly negotiating for another.

The three players that they have signed so far are Samir, Hassane Kamara and Edo Kayembe. Watford are currently negotiating a second raid of KAS Eupen, where they signed Kayembe from.

That is according to Foot Mercato, per Sport Witness, who claim the sides have been in talks ‘for several days’.

The player they are negotiating for is centre-back Agbadou. The 6ft3in defender is in top form, having scored five goals in 21 games this season.

There is an obvious need for defensive stability in Watford’s side, given they have conceded 37 goals in 19 games this season. In addition, defensive ever-present William Troost-Ekong is at the African Cup of Nations currently.

Evidently, the Hornets think Agbadou will be able to help in the defence. His goalscoring abilities also present another aspect to his game, which makes him an attractive prospect.

Ranieri’s side have already signed one centre-back, in Samir, and obviously they want further options.

Each of the January signings the side has made so far started the last game, a 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

As such, Agbadou is likely to play a role in the side should the deal be completed.

Agbadou and Kalu not far off

Also ongoing at Watford, the side are closing in on yet another January deal. They are reportedly close to signing Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu.

Bordeaux’s joint second top-scorer last season is sure to provide attacking threat for the Hornets.

The deal is reported to be costing Ranieri’s side in the region of £2.5-£3.5million.

All of the deals they have completed in January have been savvy ones.
