Champions League QF draw: Liverpool learn fate as Chelsea, Man City set for Spain trips; all-English SF possible
Liverpool will play Benfica in the Champions League quarter-finals, while Manchester City and Chelsea are set for trips to Spain.
City will play Atletico Madrid, who dumped Manchester United out in their last 16 tie. Chelsea play Real Madrid in the last eight in a repeat of last season’s semi-final when the Blues went on to triumph and reach the final.
City and Chelsea are at the Etihad Stadium and Stamford Bridge, respectively, for their first legs.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will travel to Portugal for their first leg with Benfica. The two sides last met in the 2005/06 season, when Benfica knocked Liverpool out at the last 16 stage.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich play Villarreal in the final last-eight tie, travelling away for the first leg before returning to Germany.
The first legs of the quarter-final will take place on April 5 and 6, with the return legs a week later.
The Reds advanced to the quarter-finals with an aggregate win over Inter. Following a 2-0 win away, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Anfield but controlled the tie to progress.
Man City joined them, although their 5-0 away win at Sporting proved more exciting than the 0-0 second-leg draw.
Like Liverpool, Chelsea found it tough against Lille but overcame the Ligue 1 club with a solid performance in France.
Bayern lost to RB Salzburg in their last 16 first leg, but thumped the Austrians in the return leg. Elsewhere, Real Madrid came back to beat Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica beat Ajax and Villarreal overcame Juventus.
